For years and years Leeuwarden has a trade history which reaches till Russia and Asia. When the “Middelzee” silted up in the years 1200-1300, trade almost stopped. In honour of this history these cup and teabox were designed. Both crafts from Friesland as well as from the Far East underlie this design.
The teacup is made of ceramics and carved in a traditional Frisian way, however with a more modern, newer pattern. The teabox is made from willow wood. The box contains tea together with a teacup. In the early days of trading tea was too light and ceramics too fragile. Thats why they were shipped together.
